Music icon Akon was one of the happiest people in Senegal as they won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the second time in their history, Softfootball reports.
The Teranga Lions defeated Morocco 1-0 courtesy a rocket shot by Pape Gueye in the first half of extra time and that proved to be the winner of the encounter. Pape Gueye was voted as Man-of-the-match as a result.

Akon maintains a close relationship with Senegalese fan favourite Sadio Mané, who was named Player of the tournament. Both huge icons are aiming to use their fame to uplift Senegal through initiatives like “Akon Lighting Africa”.
Here is a video of Akon in Senegal’s dressing room after the win against Morocco, hugging El Hadji Diouf, chatting with Bayern Munich forward Nicolas Jackson and excitedly greeting everyone on his path. CAF shared via their official X handle. Watch below.

Akon, the Senegalese-American music superstar, is a passionate supporter of Senegalese football, frequently utilizing his platform to boost the team’s morale and visibility on the international stage.

However, he considers Senegal his home and proudly identifies as African, often sharing his passion for the national team as a way to represent his roots.
