Mohamed Salah Questions Liverpool Treatment and Future After Emotional Interview

4 Min Read

Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool has taken a sharp turn after an emotional interview that followed the 3-3 draw with Leeds United on December 6. SoftFootball had already reported on the growing tension around the club before Liverpool blew a 2-0 lead at Elland Road and also highlighted how Arne Slot is facing rising pressure.

Those reports set the stage for Salah’s outburst, which felt quite unlike him, and honestly, the whole situation looked heavier than just another bad night. SoftFootball also covered Liverpool’s late escape against Sunderland and painted a picture of a team struggling for direction, and Salah’s comments now make that picture look even messier.

Salah explained in a post shared by Fabrizio Romano on his official X account that he feels he has been thrown under the bus, and he sounded genuinely hurt when he spoke.

He said, almost like someone who no longer understands how things flipped so quickly:

After what I have done for the club it really hurts. You can imagine, really. If I am somewhere else, every club would protect the player. I don’t know why I am in this situation now.

It was clear that he sees himself as being isolated at a moment when he feels he deserves backing.

His relationship with Arne Slot seems damaged beyond repair.

Salah said:

I had good relations with the manager… and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationships. I don’t know why. It seems to be me, how I see it, someone does NOT want me at the club.

Salah also confirmed he had asked his parents to attend Liverpool’s next home match against Brighton.

He said:

I said to my parents: come to the Brighton game. I don’t know if I am going to play or not but I am going to enjoy it. I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go Africa Cup. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.

It sounded like a farewell without fully saying the word goodbye.

He defended his legacy too, saying:

I have been at this club, scoring more than anyone in this generation since I came to the Premier League

Salah compared his situation to Harry Kane’s treatment by the media.

He said:

Can I give an example? It’s silly but I am sorry. I remember a while go, Harry Kane was not scoring for ten games. The media were like: Oh, Harry will score for sure. When it comes to Mo, everyone is like: He needs to be on the bench. I am sorry Harry!

Salah finished by saying:

Liverpool, I will always love this club. My kids always support, I love the club. I will always do.

But love does not hide the pain he feels now, and the way he talked made it hard to shake the feeling that the Brighton match may truly be his last moment at Anfield for a long while.
