Messi close to breaking freekick record after his 69th freekick goal

Lionel Messi ha scored the 69th free-kick goal of his career. Softfootball watched as the Barcelona legend show cased again his freekick qualities to the fans and the world as Inter went past Nashville SC in a 2-1 win.

According to Goal, the Argentine is now just eight goals shy of tying Marcelinho Carioca, who leads the all-time list with 78 free-kick goals. The list also has Roberto Dinamite with 74, and Juninho Pernambucano sits at 72.

Messi’s freekick qualities had been something to watch since his days at Barcelona as one of his freekicks, the one against Liverpool was nominated for UCL best Freekicks of all time. He has on several occasions helped his team come out tight hole with his freekicks.

Inter Miami coach, Javier Mascherano was overwhelmed while speaking about what Messi is doing in the MLS league. Messi’s goals last night meant Inter Miami had now gone unbeaten in three straight games since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup.

Mascherano said:

“Obviously, we’re monitoring the situation daily and having ongoing conversations with him,

“What he continues to do is unbelievable – breaking records every three days.

“He’s the flag bearer of this team, our leader, and he sets the standard for how we compete.

“It’s truly a blessing to be part of this stage of his career.”

The gaffer also ensured to talk about how rest the Argentine legend whose age, 37, his beginning to tell on him. He explained that:

“We’ll find the right time to give him a break”

Softfootball earlier reported that Mascherano had earlier stressed that Messi needed rest in their previous game. Lionel Messi delivered yet another decisive performance for Inter Miami, but manager Javier Mascherano says the Argentine’s growing workload is becoming a concern as the fixtures pile up.
