McCoist Predicts Arsenal to Win Premier League Next Season

Ally McCoist does not foresee Liverpool retaining the Premier League trophy next season. Despite a fantastic first season under Arne Slot, which saw Liverpool clinch their 20th English league title, McCoist believes that Arsenal will emerge as the new champions.

Liverpool’s remarkable campaign saw them surge ahead of rivals, securing the title with an impressive 89 points, possibly finishing 15 points clear of second-place Arsenal if they win their final two matches. The Reds’ resurgence, combined with recent contract extensions for key players Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, has led them to be favorites for the 2025-26 season.

However, McCoist is backing Arsenal to claim the title for the first time since 2004. The Gunners are set to finish second for the third consecutive season, but McCoist believes they’ll finally go one better next year, provided they secure a top striker in the summer. Arsenal’s lack of a consistent goal-scorer has been a major issue this season, exacerbated by injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

“I think Arsenal will win the Premier League next season,” McCoist shared with talkSPORT BET. “As long as they sign a couple of players, particularly an out-and-out centre forward, there’s no reason why Arsenal can’t go and kick on again.”

McCoist highlighted the quality of Arsenal’s squad, praising their solid defense and midfield, with players like Declan Rice having an outstanding season. Even though Martin Ødegaard’s form has dipped recently, McCoist still sees him as a key asset for the team.

Although Liverpool will take confidence from retaining key players like Salah and van Dijk, McCoist admitted that replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold would be a significant challenge. With Manchester City also aiming to bounce back from a poor run this season, McCoist believes Arsenal’s chances of winning the title will improve with some key signings.

“Arsenal need to strengthen their bench and bring in a top striker,” McCoist said. “If they do that, I can honestly see them winning the league next season.”

The former striker also noted the increasing pressure on Mikel Arteta, especially as Arsenal faces another trophyless season. The Gunners’ recent Champions League semi-final defeat to PSG marked a fifth consecutive season without silverware, making next season’s success even more crucial for Arteta.

“The clock is absolutely ticking on Mikel Arteta,” McCoist commented. “But should Arsenal get rid of him? Absolutely not. You can see the progress he’s made at the club. The last six weeks have been tough, but that’s largely because Arsenal focused on their Champions League ambitions and the Premier League title was always in sight for Liverpool.”
