Marc Guehi’s favorite destination is Liverpool, despite reported Man City interest

Marc Guehi has been linked with a move to both Liverpool and Manchester City this summer, but his desired destinations remains Anfield, and talks remain ongoing for a deal to happen before the end of the transfer window.

The England defender has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs this summer after establishing himself as one of the most reliable centre-backs in the division.

Softfootball understands that Liverpool have tracked the defenfer for long as they aim to further bolster their centre-back department that already includes the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni.

The Reds only have a week or so to wrap up a deal for the Crystal Palace star before the September 1 deadline which is fast approaching. The 25-year-old will want guarantees over his playing time under manager Arne Slot which may be the toughest part of negotiations at the moment.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his X account, Guéhi’s stance remains unchanged despite interest from Man City and other clubs. The defender considers Liverpool his preferred destination, with talks ongoing in hopes of completing a deal before the transfer window closes. The post reads:

“Despite reports on Man City and more clubs, Marc Guehi’s situation has not changed: Liverpool is his favorite destination.

Guehi wants #LFC, talks still ongoing for deal to happen before end of the window.

If not possible with Palace, Liverpool will be on it for 2026.”

For Manchester City, the development may force them to look towards alternative defensive targets, or put faith in their existing options for the duration of the campaign, with the likes of Abdukodir Khusanov and Josko Gvardiol yet to feature this season.

They have previously kept tabs on other options across Europe and in the Premier League, but Guehi’s clear intention to favour Liverpool means a bidding war may not be worth pursuing.
