Softfootball understands, following the announcement from football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, that Marc Guehi is set to join Manchester City from Crystal Palace in a deal reportedly worth around £20 million.
The announcement followed shortly after City finalised the signing of striker Antoine Semenyo, signalling the club’s intent to strengthen both attack and defence for the title race.

The transfer immediately generated reactions across social media, with fans weighing in on the implications for the Premier League. Some highlighted City’s ability to lure top talent compared to other clubs struggling to compete financially.
X user kvng Baff (@kvng_baff) expressed admiration for City’s recruitment strategy, noting that while Manchester United were struggling in sixth place and denied their manager’s requests for reinforcements, City continued to invest in proven talent.

He stated:
Manchester City are 2nd on the league table and they have added Semenyo who’s one of the best attacker in the league and Marc Guehi who’s one of the best CB in the league as well. Manchester United were 6th on the table (3 points behind 4th), manager asked for backing and they said No, you’re not serious so fuck off.
Another fan, (fan) Beeb (@AFC_Beeb), criticised Pep Guardiola, arguing that City’s success is often seen as a product of spending rather than tactical genius.
He wrote:
You will see people talking about greatest manager of all time and you will see Pep’s name on it but forgetting that he’s actually not done anything outside of spending money. There’s a reason why he flopped at Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, some supporters reflected on Guehi’s personal motivations for the move. Joe Herald (@SpectrumHerald) suggested that the defender was seeking a club with clear ambitions for silverware.

He said:
Welp. Guehi wanted to join a club who wanted to win stuff not fight for top 4. If we were serious we’d have had him sorted by Jan 1st, especially with Glasner leaving. Klopp left us in a state to win the league, Slot will leave us in a state.
Chelsea fans also shared their disappointment at losing the highly rated centre-back, as X user ChelsTransfer
(@ChelsTransfer) added to the conversation.
He added:
Shame he rejected us. But go on son and stop Arsenal from winning the league.
Finally, some supporters questioned the Premier League’s perception of City’s dominance. X user حسن الناقور, Mr Nagoor (@hasanalnaqour),
He wrote:
Sometimes I seriously wonder how Manchester City keep getting away with things that would spark national outrage if it were Manchester United. They already have a defence most clubs would dream of, yet here they are again, circling Marc Guehi.
With Guehi now set to officially become a Manchester City player, the Premier League title race just got even more competitive, and the summer of transfers looks set to have lasting repercussions.
