Manchester United star reflects on “brilliant” preseason as United prepares for new campaign

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has spoken of the importance of Manchester United’s preseason tour in the United States, as the Reds continue their preparations for the new Premier League campaign under Ruben Amorim.

Softfootball understands that the midfielder is feeling sharp and ready ahead of the 2025/26 season, having played 24 minutes in United’s 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday.

United began their summer schedule with a goalless draw against Leeds United in Stockholm before heading across the Atlantic for three matches in the Premier League Summer Series.

Mount, who featured in the latter stages of last season following a frustrating spell with injury, is focused on using this summer to build fitness and rhythm.

He told MUTV this:

“Yeah, it’s been good so far.

“First time here, so we’ve had the opportunity to have a little look around. The training facilities are amazing. It’s very hot, but that adds to it; you’re getting that different kind of training.”

United’s squad have trained in tough conditions as they work through Amorim’s high-intensity sessions. For Mount, the physical challenge is welcome.

About the intensity of the training, Mount added:

“We’d been told that it was going to be tough from the get-go, so we had to be ready for that”

“We’ve had a long break, just over five weeks. That felt very, very long. After about two, you start getting itchy, and you want to start getting back to training again.”

Mount returned to action in May after several months out. He ended the campaign strongly, scoring twice in his final four appearances, and now hopes to carry that momentum forward.

He continued:

“I look at the end of last season, and that was positive for me.

“To get back in the shape that I was in, to be able to play and finish the season off, to get a few goals, and to be back in and amongst the lads, that’s the most important thing.”

With just under three weeks until the season opener, Mount says the squad is benefiting from time together.

He said:

“We’re all in this together. I think this period now is so important for us to train and spend time together. I’m feeling really good. I feel like I’m in a really good place at the moment. I’m so excited for the start of the season.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United are still in strong contention for Benjamin Sesko, who’s yet to decide the whole transfer tussle between the Red Devils and Newcastle. Softfootball earlier reported that Sesko has been put up for sale by Leipzig after the player made his intention to play in the Premier League

But the deal is still dangling between Newcastle, who are offering wages, and a “juicy” Champions League, which Manchester United can’t afford.

Manchester United’s next friendly game is against Bournemouth next Thursday in the USA, before the competitive action begins at home for Arsenal next month.
