Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5 million deal, marking their second major addition under Ruben Amorim. Cunha has agreed to a five-year contract keeping him at Old Trafford until 2030, pending visa and registration approval.

Cunha’s standout performance against United last April reportedly helped sway the recruitment team. The 26-year-old scored 17 goals and provided six assists across 36 games last season. His move follows January’s acquisition of Patrick Dorgu and represents a significant step in United’s attacking overhaul.

However, the signing also brings speculation. Rio Ferdinand has hinted that big names like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, or Kobbie Mainoo could be sold to balance the books. Rashford’s future is particularly under scrutiny, especially amid reports Cunha may inherit the No.10 shirt once worn by the England international.

Ferdinand, speaking on his YouTube channel, expressed both excitement and concern. He praised Cunha’s Premier League experience and versatility, noting the forward’s ability to play across all attacking roles. According to him, the Brazilian’s dynamic style aligns perfectly with Amorim’s tactical approach.

The arrival of Cunha could mean more changes are coming. Ferdinand stressed the need for an experienced No.9 and a box-to-box midfielder who can also control the pace of play. He urged the club’s recruitment team to maintain focus as the transfer window progresses.

Despite the buzz surrounding the transfer, some fans worry about the implications. Garnacho and Mainoo, considered vital parts of United’s youth core, are now linked with possible exits alongside Rashford. Selling any of the three would be controversial but may prove necessary to fund further investments.

United now look to continue reshaping their squad, with Ruben Amorim aiming to solidify his vision and bring balance to a team that struggled for consistency last season. Cunha’s arrival could be just the start of a turbulent and transformative summer at Old Trafford.
