Manchester United Shift Focus to Hugo Ekitike Transfer Deal

Manchester United have switched their striker target to Hugo Ekitike after stepping away from the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres, who now appears bound for Arsenal. Ekitike’s rise at Eintracht Frankfurt, following a forgettable stint with Paris Saint-Germain, has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards this summer.

The 22-year-old French striker tallied an impressive 22 goals and 12 assists across all competitions last season, playing a crucial role in helping Eintracht secure a third-place Bundesliga finish and a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Liverpool and Chelsea are also reportedly exploring options to land the forward, adding further pressure on United as they reassess their attacking options.

Gyokeres has reportedly ruled out a move to Old Trafford, preferring Champions League football and a reunion with Ruben Amorim, which prompted United to intensify efforts for Ekitike instead.

However, a major hurdle remains — Eintracht’s steep £80 million valuation. United may be forced to wait or negotiate a significantly lower fee, as the German side has shown no intention of backing down. Sporting director Markus Krosche made it clear the club won’t sell unless the offer meets their expectations, emphasizing that Ekitike is under contract until 2029 and they’re in no rush to offload him.

Micah Richards, speaking on The Rest is Football, described Ekitike as a high-ceiling player with raw talent. Though inconsistent at times, the striker has shown flashes of brilliance. Liverpool, who are monitoring his situation, may see him as a fit for Arne Slot’s system — particularly if they prioritize a forward who can stretch defenses rather than drop deep and link play.

With Wirtz arriving at Liverpool and Luis Diaz’s position still uncertain, Ekitike’s potential role in any top Premier League side remains a topic of tactical debate. What’s clear is that the Frenchman’s future could ignite a high-stakes transfer battle this summer — but United’s hopes rest on Frankfurt’s willingness to negotiate.
