Manchester United “played” again by Brentford for Mbeumo’s signature

Softfootball has been notified that Manchester United’s proposal for Bryan Mbeumo has been turned down again by Brentford.

According to the UK Guardian, Manchester United hit a stumbling block over the striker due to Brentford’s sudden rise in the asking price to nearly £70 million. This fee has been said to have gone beyond bounds, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is currently unwilling to meet.

United believed they had made significant progress towards securing the 25-year-old forward, with Brentford previously indicating that a £65m package would be enough to complete the deal. Medical preparations were even said to be under discussion at the end of June.

However, the Bees have since shifted their stance, prompting frustration at Old Trafford. Ratcliffe, who leads United’s football operations, and Jason Wilcox, the club’s new director of football, are refusing to be pressured into overpaying and are prepared to wait rather than be dictated to.

Mbeumo, for his part, has informed Brentford of his desire to make the switch to United. But with the west London club holding a one-year extension option on his deal, they remain in a position of strength.

United may need to offload players before reigniting talks. All of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia are said to have requested exits, and the club are open to offers for each.

As earlier reported by Softfootball, Marcus Rashford has been linked to joining Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahçe after falling out of favour with Coach Ruben Amorim. Ruben Amorim is keen to bolster his attack further. United have made just one signing so far, completing a £62.5m move for Wolves striker Matheus Cunha.

Pre-season preparations are now underway, with United set to face Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday before flying to the United States.

There, they’ll take on West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton as part of their summer tour, ahead of a mouthwatering Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford in just over four weeks.
