Manchester United need to score goals and not concede, Fernandes declares

Bruno Fernandes has expressed his disappointment following the Red Devils 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby on Sunday evening, Softfootball reports.

The Portuguese was involved for 90 minutes as Manchester City hammered United at the Etihad. Norway international Erling Haaland scored twice while Phil Foden got one of the goals as the Cityzen won the Manchester derby convincingly.

Speaking after the Manchester derby to United’s official media, Fernandes says he is not happy with how they conceded goals. He said:

You have to look at what we did well. It was obviously not enough because you want to win football games, not see the positives from the game. What we did here was not enough to get the result. All we have to got to take from this game is obviously to look at what we need to do better and go forward to the next game.

We need to score goals and not to concede. It is the main thing of football. We keep creating chances to score and we are not able to score as many as we wanted. We have to be more in control of certain situations. We conceded three goals that should have been avoided. For the first one [by Foden], we need to be more brave. When we go in full pressure in one-v-ones, City take that risk against us today. We need to do the same.

The second goal was from a throw-in and we need to be much more aware in that moment. The third goal, a thing like that can happen, but we need to be in a better position to not being countered like that.

Before the last international break, Manchester City had lost to Brighton after losing at home to Tottenham Hotspur and needed a win to close the gap on the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal that sit first and second respectively on the premier league log. Manchester United defeated Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford and needed to consolidate on their win.

So, it was a huge win for Pep Guardiola’s men as they have now climbed the table to eighth with six points after two wins and two losses in four premier league matches while Manchester United have just four points and are placed 14th on the log.

Manchester United will host Chelsea next week while City face Napoli in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday before traveling to the Emirates on Sunday to battle Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
