Manchester United eye Carnesecchi amid Onana doubts

Manchester United are preparing for a major change between the sticks next season, with Andre Onana likely to lose his first-choice status at Old Trafford.

After a disappointing campaign that saw United finish 16th in the Premier League and fall short in the Europa League final, the club has reportedly lost confidence in the Cameroonian goalkeeper, who arrived just a year ago in 2023.

Without any European football next season, the club sees this as a time for rebuilding, and the goalkeeping department is one of the key areas under review. The Red Devils are now eyeing a move for Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi as a potential replacement.

At just 24, Carnesecchi has established himself as a reliable shot-stopper for the Serie A side. While Transfermarkt values the Italian at €25 million, reports suggest Atalanta will demand closer to €50 million to even consider letting him go.

Although the Bergamo-based club finished third in Italy and hold the upper hand contractually—with Carnesecchi tied down until June 2029—a serious bid could still test their resolve, especially if the player expresses a desire to leave.

The Italian has emerged as Manchester United’s top target for the No.1 role, but negotiations will likely be complex. United may need to act swiftly and decisively if they want to bring Carnesecchi in before the new season kicks off.
