Manchester United have decided not to activate their buy-back clause on Mason Greenwood, clearing the way for the forward to complete his move from Marseille to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.

All major aspects of the transfer have now been agreed, with formal documentation being finalised before Greenwood travels to Istanbul to complete the move.

The decision means United will not re-sign the 24-year-old despite retaining the option following his permanent departure in 2024. Instead, the Premier League club will benefit financially through the sell-on clause included in the original agreement with Marseille, with reports indicating United are set to receive more than £10 million from the transfer.

Greenwood enjoyed an impressive spell in France after joining Marseille following a successful loan at Getafe. His prolific performances in Ligue 1 established him as one of the league’s standout attackers and attracted interest from several European clubs, including Atlético Madrid.

Last season, Softfootball reported that Greenwood had become one of the most valuable players in Ligue 1 thanks to his outstanding goalscoring form and consistent displays for Marseille.

For Fenerbahçe, the signing represents a major addition as the Turkish club strengthens its squad with a proven goalscorer ahead of the new campaign. Meanwhile, Manchester United secure a financial boost without bringing the forward back to Old Trafford, allowing the club to benefit from the sell-on clause negotiated in the 2024 transfer.

An official announcement is expected once Greenwood completes the remaining formalities and arrives in Istanbul to finalise the move.
