Manchester City has sent Claudio Echeverri out on loan to Girona for the season of the season, the club confirmed this afternoon, Softfootball reports.
Despite the Cityzens losing 2-0 against Manchester United in the derby on Saturday, they felt Echeverri needed more experience and game time before he will be ready for the premier league.
Manchester City put out a statement via their official X handle that the midfielder will not be part of the squad for their second half of the season. The statement read:
Claudio Echeverri will join Girona on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance. Good luck, Claudio! 🩵
The Argentine midfielder, who spent the first half of the season on loan in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen joined Manchester City in January 2024 but stayed on loan at River Plate until February 2025.
The Cityzens were concerned about Echeverri’s plight at |Leverkusen which led to his recall to the club before sending him on another loan spell to their CFG sister Club where he will link up with another City player in Vitor Reis at the Spanish Club.
Interestingly, Echeverri made three appearances for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, with his debut coming in our FA Cup final where Crystal Palace won 1-0 at Wembley in May 2025.
His first goal for Manchester City came at the FIFA Club World Cup, when he scored a superb free-kick against Al-Ain before he was forced off with an injury at half-time.
Echeverri made 11 appearances for Bundesliga sid Bayer Leverkusen, six in the league and five in the Champions League, but he was on the bench for 90 minutes when the German side visited the Etihad Stadium.
