Manchester City have added another promising youngster to their ranks, confirming the signing of 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg. The deal, reportedly worth £12.5 million, marks City’s fifth acquisition of the summer transfer window.
Nypan, who made his professional debut for Rosenborg at just 15, brings impressive versatility to the Etihad. Although naturally a central midfielder, he’s equally comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder, winger, or even centre forward.
That tactical flexibility, combined with his maturity on the pitch, has made him one of Norway’s most talked-about talents.
Softfootball understands that over the span of 70 senior appearances for Rosenborg, Nypan tallied 14 goals and 11 assists, a remarkable output for a teenager. He has also featured for Norway across all youth levels, from U-15 up to the U-21 squad.
Earlier this year, the youngster was heavily linked with Aston Villa and Arsenal. However, Manchester City ultimately won the race, thanks in part to direct meetings and the influence of star striker Erling Haaland.
Nypan was even spotted in Haaland’s Etihad Stadium box during City’s win over Chelsea, attending with his family and agent Rafaela Pimenta.

City officially announced the signing via their website and social media platforms, confirming a five-year contract that runs until the summer of 2030. In his first words as a City player, Nypan said:
“I am incredibly happy and proud to have joined Manchester City. It’s a dream for any young footballer. The opportunity to be coached by Pep Guardiola is something I’m excited about.”
City’s Director of Football Hugo Viana added:
“Sverre is a player we’ve tracked for some time. He has outstanding qualities, and we believe he will grow even more under our guidance.”

The Norwegian becomes City’s fifth summer signing following Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli. Further arrivals may depend on outgoing transfers, with uncertainty still looming over the futures of Jack Grealish, John Stones, Ederson, and James McAtee.
While Nypan is expected to join pre-season training on July 28 and could feature in the club’s friendly against Palermo on August 9, a loan move remains on the table for the 2025/26 season. As of now, no destination has been confirmed.
