Man United submit £25m bid for Ivan Toney in surprise transfer move

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a bid to sign Ivan Toney from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in a move that could see the England international return to the Premier League just a year after leaving Brentford.

Toney made the switch to Al-Ahli in August 2024 after an impressive run with Brentford, where he netted 72 goals and contributed 23 assists across 141 games. In Saudi Arabia, he has continued his prolific form, scoring 30 goals and providing six assists in 44 appearances.

Despite having three years remaining on his current deal, speculation is mounting about Toney’s desire to return to England. According to reports from Fichajes, Manchester United have stepped up their interest by tabling an offer worth £25 million, plus an additional £4.3 million in performance-based add-ons. The Red Devils have also held initial talks with the player’s representatives.

A return to England would likely require Toney to take a significant pay cut, but the player is said to be open to the idea. The 28-year-old striker, who has seven England caps and remains hopeful of making Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, would offer a ready-made Premier League solution for United.

Toney, who scored 36 goals and provided 11 assists in 83 Premier League games for Brentford, had previously been linked with clubs like Arsenal and United before his unexpected move to the Middle East. Now, United view him as a more affordable and proven alternative to Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, another striker high on their shortlist.

While the move might not align with Manchester United’s recent youth-focused transfer strategy under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the relatively low price and Toney’s proven track record in England make it a potentially savvy investment. A deal could be finalized in the coming days if all parties agree on terms.
