Manchester United have reportedly submitted an offer for Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes as Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad with a specialist wing-back.
Talks between PSG and the Portugal international over a new contract had been progressing positively, but negotiations have now stalled amid growing interest from Old Trafford. Softfootball understands United have intensified their efforts to sign the defender following Amorim’s arrival as manager.
According to RMC Sport, the Premier League club have already made an official approach for Mendes and are pushing to complete a deal, with other European clubs also monitoring the situation.
Amorim’s preferred back-three system has increased the need for attacking wing-backs, and Mendes is viewed as an ideal fit due to his pace, technical ability and familiarity with the Portuguese coach’s style of football.
Reports suggest the 22-year-old is open to leaving PSG and is interested in the prospect of joining Manchester United.
However, the French champions remain determined to keep the defender and have not abandoned hopes of convincing him to sign a contract extension.
PSG are unwilling to sanction his departure during the January transfer window, setting up a potential transfer battle if United continue their pursuit.
Mendes has established himself as one of Europe’s top young full-backs since joining PSG and would represent a significant addition to Amorim’s rebuilding project should a deal eventually materialise.
