Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku could be on the move again, with Manchester United reportedly in pole position to secure his signature this summer. United have initiated contact with the Frenchman’s representatives as they explore a potential deal, though a formal offer has not yet been made.
Nkunku has barely featured at the Club World Cup, playing only six minutes so far, as Chelsea prepare to face ES Tunis in their next fixture. Despite showing promise in cup and European competitions—scoring 11 times and assisting three in 15 games—his overall impact has fallen short of expectations since his £52m move from RB Leipzig in 2023.
Chelsea are aiming to sell up to 15 players as new boss Enzo Maresca looks to streamline the squad and fund incoming transfers. Nkunku, who is not part of the manager’s long-term vision, is among those expected to leave. He is still under contract until 2029 but is pushing for a move in search of more regular first-team action.
A host of European giants have been linked with the 27-year-old forward, including Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham. But Manchester United, who showed interest in Nkunku during the January window, are now believed to be the frontrunners for his services.
In the Premier League, his numbers have been modest—38 appearances, 11 starts, six goals, and two assists. Injuries derailed his debut season, and though he remained mostly fit last term, he was unable to nail down a starting role, making just nine league starts and scoring three goals.

With Chelsea reportedly seeking £35m for the player, United may see this as a bargain opportunity, especially amid their own reshuffle. Ruben Amorim, leading their recruitment strategy, is revamping the attack and is also targeting Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres following the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Meanwhile, United are also reportedly open to offloading current attackers like Antony, Rashford, Sancho, and Garnacho—who himself has previously been linked with Chelsea. As the summer window heats up, Nkunku’s future remains one to watch.
