Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has come out strongly in defence of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, comparing the media criticism aimed at him to the intense scrutiny once faced by former PSG No. 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma. Speaking ahead of PSG’s Champions League showdown against Bayer Leverkusen on Monday, October 20, 2025, Enrique addressed reporters with rare emotion.

The manager’s comments followed Softfootball’s earlier report, where he emphasised PSG’s hunger to take as many points as possible from the group stage. Enrique said, voicing frustration at what he called recycled narratives around his goalkeepers in an interview shared by Fabrizio Romano on his official X account:
For four years, the press killed Donnarumma! Even when I was not here… now it’s the same with Chevalier.

His passionate defence comes as PSG prepare for a high-stakes trip to Germany, where Softfootball recently previewed their push to maintain a 100% Champions League record. Enrique made it clear that he fully trusts his new 23-year-old shot-stopper. He said:
I am so happy with Chevalier. He is one of the best options, or the best option. When you sign a player, you think long-term… and I love his level.

The Spanish coach also praised Chevalier’s mental strength, describing him as composed, brave, and perfectly suited to PSG’s ball-playing system. Enrique added:
He has the personality we need. I see everything I want from my goalkeeper.
PSG continue to evolve under Enrique’s leadership, with the manager focusing on building a balanced, fearless squad capable of handling both domestic and European pressure. For Chevalier, this was a timely vote of confidence and, perhaps, a turning point in his young career.
