According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Chiesa would like to return to the Serie A where he enjoyed success in the past with Fiorentina and Juventus.

Writing on his X handle revealed:

“Even after Luis Diaz’s sale, Federico Chiesa’s plan remains to leave Liverpool as he wants to play more.

“Serie A, still his favorite destination.”

Chiesa did not play much at Liverpool after he joined from in the summer of 2024. He arrived in Merseyside after four seasons with the Old Lady, where he produced 32 goals and 23 assists from his 131 appearances.

However, his time at Liverpool was hindered by injuries and fitness issues as he only played 14 matches for the Reds, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist.

Chiesa is a player that is full of energy and his playing style is characterized by his pace, dribbling, powerful shooting, and versatility as a wide forward. He excels at taking on defenders with his speed and close control, often using feints to create space for himself and teammates. He is a strong finisher with both feet and can deliver accurate crosses, particularly low ones, though he can sometimes overhit aerial crosses.

Chiesa was tipped for greatness and he showed glimpses of that when he helped the Italian national team become 2020 European Champions but has not lived up to that reputation since then.

Now, he is surplus to requirements at Anfield as Arne Slot has reinforced his squad with the signings of Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. They are also in for Newcastle United striker, Alexander Isak, so there’s no room for Chiesa at the club.

Liverpool continue their pre-season with a game against the Japanese side, Yokohama FM on Wednesday as part of preparations ahead of the 2025/26 football season.
