Liverpool has announced the signing of 17-year-old striker Will Wright on a permanent deal from Salford City, continuing the club’s push to secure emerging domestic talent, Softfootball understands.
Wright’s addition was revealed on Liverpool’s club website this afternoon. Wright had been making the news earlier, with Softfootball reporting that Arsenal wanted the youngster before Liverpool hijacked the English player.

The left-footed forward, who has been characterized with good instincts in the final third, has been closely tracked by Liverpool’s recruitment team for several months. His blend of movement, sharp decision-making, and physical upside at youth level caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, with Arsenal also holding early interest before the Reds moved decisively to complete the deal.
Wright made his senior debut for Salford during the 2024–25 campaign, first featuring in an EFL Trophy tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers U21s last November. He went on to add further senior experience with appearances in both the Emirates FA Cup and League Two earlier this year, underlining his early promise at the senior level despite limited minutes.
The teenager has already linked up with Rob Page’s U21 side and made his first appearance over the weekend, coming off the bench for the final 30 minutes in a goalless draw against Hull City at the Kirkby Academy. While still early in his Liverpool integration, the forward is expected to remain with the U21 group this season, with the club focused on gradual progression through the development pathway.
Wright joins a growing list of academy-age additions Liverpool have made across the past two windows, part of a wider strategy to strengthen the club’s long-term player pipeline. His arrival adds further depth to the attacking ranks, alongside recent promotions from the U18 side and other external signings.Meanwhile, Liverpool will be playing their double-legged friendlies this evening against Athletic Club at Anfield.
