The honour arrives during another significant chapter in Messi’s career. Argentina have officially named their squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Messi receiving a historic sixth World Cup call-up, further cementing his place among football’s all-time greats.
The recognition serves as yet another tribute to Messi’s extraordinary legacy. Having joined Barcelona as a teenager at the age of 13, the Argentine spent more than two decades with the club, becoming the most iconic player in its history. During his time in Catalonia, Messi scored an astonishing 672 goals and helped the club win 35 major trophies, establishing himself as one of the greatest footballers ever to play the game.
