Lewandowski Hit with Thigh Injury, Big Doubt for El Clásico

4 Min Read

Robert Lewandowski has picked up another injury, and this one looks serious. Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday, October 14, via their official X handle, that the striker has a muscle tear in his left thigh, the biceps femoris, which will keep him out for a few weeks, maybe more depending on his recovery.

He played the full 90 minutes for Poland in their 2–0 win over Lithuania on Sunday and even got on the scoresheet; he looked perfectly fine and was regarded by Softfootball as one of the star performers for FC Barcelona during the international break. But after returning to Barcelona, things went sideways. He complained of discomfort during recovery, and scans at Ciutat Esportiva revealed the bad news, as revealed by Barcelona via their official website.

Robert Lewandowski has suffered a hamstring injury in his left thigh. He will be sidelined, and his recovery time will depend on how the injury progresses.

The Polish striker has scored four goals in nine appearances so far in the 2025/26 season. His tally includes a brace against Valencia and goals against Oviedo and Real Sociedad. This season he has also scored two goals for Poland, the most recent coming during the October international break against Lithuania.

Reports around Spain say the 37-year-old could miss around four to six weeks, meaning he’s out for El Clásico later this month against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. That’s a huge blow not just for Barça’s attack but for Hansi Flick, who’s already dealing with a full treatment room.

Gavi’s still out, Dani Olmo’s injured, Ter Stegen too, and Raphinha isn’t fit yet; even Softfootball reported that Ferran Torres is also injured. It’s beginning to look messy for Barcelona, especially with Champions League games against Olympiacos and Club Brugge coming fast. Lewandowski will also likely miss league matches against Girona, Elche and Celta Vigo.

It’s another tough moment for him personally. He’s in the final year of his contract and there’s been talk he might leave in the summer. Still, he’s managed six goals so far this season — four in La Liga, two for Poland — showing there’s plenty left in his boots.

Now the question is who steps up. Ferran Torres maybe, or Lamine Yamal, who’s just back from a groin problem. Either way, it’s a test for the team’s depth and Flick’s plan B.

Training continued at Ciutat Esportiva with several players still away on international duty. Fermin Lopez and Yamal both trained, while a few Barça Atlètic boys Guillem Víctor, Hafiz Gariba, Jofre Torrents, and others were brought in to fill up the session.

Barcelona are second in La Liga, two points behind Real Madrid. Losing Lewandowski right before El Clásico couldn’t have come at a worse time.
