Leicester City are actively searching for a new manager following the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy, and two names have emerged at the top of their shortlist: Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl and England Under-21 head coach Lee Carsley.
The Foxes are rebuilding after a turbulent period that saw them drop out of the Premier League. Following the exits of Enzo Maresca and key midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall last summer, Leicester struggled early in the campaign and parted ways with Steve Cooper. Van Nistelrooy was appointed in December but couldn’t prevent relegation.

Now, Leicester’s focus is on securing a capable manager to guide them back to the top flight. According to EFL Analysis, Danny Rohl is currently the club’s preferred option. The German coach is under contract at Sheffield Wednesday, meaning Leicester would need to pay compensation—reportedly around £1 million, which is significantly less than the earlier quoted £5 million.
Lee Carsley is another serious contender. The former Everton midfielder is currently leading England’s Under-21 team at the European Championships in Slovakia. While highly regarded for his work with youth teams, Carsley’s previous stint with England’s senior side raised concerns over his ability to handle media scrutiny in a high-pressure role.
Leicester’s leadership must weigh Rohl’s club-level experience against Carsley’s youth success as they prepare for a crucial campaign in the Championship.
