The date and time for late Liverpool player Diogo Jota and brother Andre Silva have been announced by the family, Softfootball can report.

According to The Mirror, the funeral service for Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, will be held on Saturday, July 6, in Gondomar, a municipality located just outside the Portuguese city of Porto.

Initially, it was scheduled for today, Friday, 4th July, at 4 pm, but the ceremony was postponed to Saturday morning due to minor paperwork delays, according to local parish priest Father José Manuel Macedo.

The family are still in Spain late into the week to finalise the repatriation of the bodies and are expected to return to Portugal ahead of the service. The wake will be held at São Cosme Chapel, followed by a funeral mass at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, located next door.

Jota, who began his football journey in Gondomar, is believed to have maintained deep ties to the community and is also thought to have met his wife, Rute Cardoso, there. Recall that the Liverpool player, Jota, married his long-time girlfriend, Cadoso, 10 days ago, before the tragedy; they share three kids.

As of press time, it is yet to be confirmed whether the ceremony will be open to the public or observed privately by family and close friends.

Softfootball had earlier reported that the deceased brothers, Jota and André, tragically passed away earlier this week in a fatal road crash in Spain while en route to Santander for a ferry trip to England.

The journey, intended as a safer alternative to air travel, ended in tragedy when the brothers’ Lamborghini suffered a suspected tyre blowout while overtaking, veered off the road, and caught fire.

The 28-year-old had undergone lung surgery in recent weeks, and doctors advised him to avoid flying. Determined to resume pre-season training with Liverpool, Jota and André embarked on the longer land-and-sea journey to England.
