Getafe’s frustrating spell without a LaLiga victory continued as they were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Girona, who struck deep into stoppage time to rescue a point and edge further clear of the relegation zone,, Softfootball reports.
With rivals below them picking up results elsewhere, Getafe arrived in Catalonia knowing urgency was required. They showed early intent when Mario Martín tested the Girona back line from close range, but the hosts soon settled and began to impose themselves. Vitor Reis forced a sharp save from David Soria with a header, before Thomas Lemar rattled the crossbar with a long-range effort that brought the Montilivi crowd to life.

Girona, buoyed by a strong recent home record, enjoyed most of the ball but struggled to turn control into clear chances as Getafe stayed compact and disciplined. Bordalás’ side even threatened to steal the lead before the break, with Zaid Romero firing narrowly wide from inside the area after a rare lapse in the home defence.
The second half opened with renewed intent from Girona, although Àlex Moreno wasted a good headed chance, and that miss proved costly. Just before the hour mark, Getafe struck on the counter, Juan Iglesias delivering a precise ball that Luis Vázquez finished emphatically into the roof of the net to put the visitors ahead.

Chasing the game, Girona poured forward in the final stages, with Iván Martín and Alejandro Francés both passing up opportunities as tension grew around the stadium. Getafe looked set to claim a much-needed win, but their resistance finally broke in the 95th minute when Reis rose highest to power a header beyond Soria, sparking wild celebrations and lifting Girona up to 10th in the table.
After the game, La liga via its official X handle shared an exclusive highlight of Ter Stegen’s brilliant last moment close range save to give Girona a much deserved point on the night. They posted:

The match also marked a notable moment for the hosts, as Marc-André ter Stegen made his first start for Girona following his loan move from Barcelona. The German goalkeeper was brought in amid a goalkeeping shortage after Dominik Livaković opted to prioritise his World Cup ambitions, sealing a loan switch to Fenerbahçe until the end of the season.
For Getafe, the late setback means they remain without a win in seven league outings, while Girona’s dramatic point provides further breathing space in their fight to steer clear of trouble.
