Massive congratulations to Joan Laporta on winning the Barcelona presidency, with his tenure now set to run until 2031, an outcome that has been widely welcomed by fans.
However, concerns remain among supporters, as gathered by Softfootball, regarding the club’s long-term leadership structure. Under current rules, Laporta will not be able to contest again immediately after completing his tenure, meaning a transition in leadership will be required.

Comparisons have been drawn with Real Madrid, where stability in management has been a key factor in the club’s sustained success. Florentino Perez has been a central figure, first serving from 2000 to 2006 before returning in 2009 and continuing to lead the club. By the end of his current term in 2029, he will have overseen more than two decades of consistent leadership.
At Barcelona, however, the system involves regular presidential elections, typically after two terms, which often leads to changes in direction. This cycle has raised concerns among fans who believe it can create instability within the club.

Many supporters feel that if Laporta continues to perform well, he should be allowed to remain in charge beyond 2031, similar to the continuity seen at Real Madrid. They argue that frequent leadership changes can disrupt progress, forcing new administrations to rebuild rather than build forward.
Since returning to office, Laporta has largely focused on stabilising and repairing the club. As a result, some believe he has not yet had the opportunity to fully implement his long-term vision for Barcelona.
