Hansi Flick will remain head coach of FC Barcelona as part of the long-term project led by club president Joan Laporta. Sporting director Deco is also expected to continue in his role, with both figures central to the club’s strategic plans.
The update was confirmed by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on his X handle following Laporta’s re-election as Barcelona president after the club’s presidential elections on March 15, 2026.
Romano said:
Hansi Flick will stay as Barcelona manager as he was part of Joan Laporta’s project… …same for director Deco, both being part of long term plans under Laporta.
The election came amid heightened tension after former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández claimed earlier in March that Laporta had previously blocked a potential return for Lionel Messi following Argentina’s triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Softfootball confirmed Laporta secured 32,934 votes, representing 68.18% of the total, comfortably defeating rival candidate Víctor Font, who received 14,385 votes (29.78%). A total of 984 ballots were recorded as blank.
Laporta’s latest victory marks his fourth term leading Barcelona. He first served as president from 2003 to 2010 before returning in March 2021, when he won the previous election with 30,184 votes. His renewed mandate will see him continue overseeing the club’s sporting and financial direction as Barcelona aims to remain competitive for major honours.
