Lamine Yamal has insisted that he has no intention of campaigning for the Ballon d’Or, leaving the decision entirely in the hands of voters and football supporters.
“I don’t think I need to campaign for the Ballon d’Or. Everyone is entitled to think whatever they want,”
Yamal said.
The Barcelona star made it clear that he is focused on his performances rather than trying to convince people that he deserves the prestigious individual award.
“I’m not here to campaign, and I’m not going to beg for anything. That’s your job. It’s not on me,”
he added.
Softfootball understands that Yamal remains one of the leading names in the Ballon d’Or conversation following another impressive period for both Barcelona and Spain. The teenager has continued to attract widespread recognition for his performances at the highest level.
His comments come amid growing debate over the leading contenders for the award. Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé recently named his personal top three candidates, selecting Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé.
Yamal’s absence from Dembélé’s personal selection is unlikely to change the Barcelona youngster’s confidence, with the 19-year-old preferring to let his football speak for itself.
The Ballon d’Or race remains highly competitive, with several elite players competing for recognition. For Yamal, however, the message is simple: he does not intend to campaign for votes and will leave the final decision to the journalist and all his fans out there and also those responsible for choosing the winner
