LAFC step up pursuit of Tottenham star Son Heung-Min in ambitious summer bid

Los Angeles FC are making a serious push to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min during the current summer transfer window, with the Korean entering the final year of his contract this season, it is understood that he doesn’t feature as a starter in the plans of new manager Thomas Frank.

While reports of LAFC’s interest in the South Korean international have surfaced in the past, the MLS side is now said to be stepping up their efforts in a bid to land the 31-year-old forward in the coming weeks.

Sources close to the situation disclosed to Softfootball that although no breakthrough has been reached yet, discussions remain ongoing. LAFC are hopeful they can persuade Son to make the move to the Stateside and lead their front line for the remainder of the 2025 season and beyond.

Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romanao is now reporting on his X handle that the MLS side have approached Heung-min Son over potential transfer for this summer as their new superstar, pushing hard to sign him, but Son and Spurs will have the final say:

“LAFC have approached Heung-min Son over potential transfer for this summer as their new superstar.

“Talks at early stages, as @PaulTenorio reports — as LAFC want to try but Son and Spurs will have the final say.

“Thomas Frank will also speak to Son and discuss future.”

The MLS secondary window opens July 24 and runs through Aug. 21. Son seems to be outside of Tottenham boss Thomas Frank’s plans for Spurs at least in his regular featured role.

Asked recently about Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero as two important players in his squad, amid recent transfer speculation around the duo, Frank said in a statement on the clubs official website:

“Two top players,” Sonny has been here 10 years and finally got his well-deserved trophy in the summer. He is so important for the team and the club.

“Romero is a World Cup winner, Europa League winner and Copa America winner, so he is very important for us as well.

“Both have trained well and both will play tomorrow. I’m very happy with them.”

Son finally won a title with Spurs when they lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy in May. He finished as a Premier League runner-up in 2017 and a Champions League finalist in 2019 and was also beaten by Manchester City in the 2021 Carabao Cup final.

Tottenham travel to Asia for a preseason tour this weekend, playing Arsenal in Hong Kong on July 31 and Newcastle in Seoul on Aug. 3.
