Kostas Tsimikas future at Anfield is in doubt as Liverpool are ready to fast track his exit plans after being excluded from Arne Slot’s matchday squad in the first match of their Premier League title defence against Bournemouth on Friday.
Under its manager, Arne Slot, the Reds are riding high on expectations following a transformative summer transfer window that has revitalized their squad. With nearly $400 million invested in talents like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool boasts a dynamic blend of youth and experience ready to ignite the pitch.

The Greek international featured regularly throughout the pre-season programme under Arne Slot at both left-back and centre-back. But with Liverpool already having £40million new man Milos Kerkez and experienced Andy Robertson as options on the left side of the defence, the Reds are willing to allow Tsimikas to depart after almost five years at the club.
Naturally, the influx of new players has had an impact on those who were already in Arne Slot’s squad last season. Major sales so far have included Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich and Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal, not forgetting Trent Alexander-Arnold’s unpopular move to Real Madrid. Now, an update has emerged about another potential player leaving Anfield.
As such, Tsimikas is likely to move on before the close of the transfer window if a deal can be done for the 29-year-old. A number of clubs are claimed to be ‘circling’ for his signature, led by Premier League pair Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his X account, Tsimikas is edging closer to an exit from Liverpool, with the club now open to considering initial loan proposals. The Greek left-back is ready to move on, as Arne Slot plans to rely on Milos Kerkez and Andy Robertson as his primary options on the left side of defence. He tweeted:
“Kostas Tsimikas exit, expected to accelerate as Liverpool could also open to potential initial loan proposals.
The left back is prepared to leave as Kerkez and Andy Robertson will be the LBs for Arne Slot.”
The 29-year-old has made a total of 115 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Olympiakos in 2020, but has never been able to usurp Robertson as first choice. He made just nine starts under Slot in the Premier League last season and had to take chances in the cup competitions after making five starts in the Champions League and two in the FA Cup.
