Liverpool are facing growing uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate’s future, with the defender reportedly unhappy with the latest contract offer presented by the club. Despite a strong 2024–25 campaign, where he made 42 appearances, Konate has not been satisfied with the structure of the proposed new deal.

The French international is said to be seeking a higher basic wage rather than relying on performance-related bonuses. According to reports from The Guardian, the 26-year-old has been left disappointed by the terms, believing they don’t reflect his growing importance to the team.

While Liverpool secured new contracts for Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, Konate’s situation remains unresolved. Talks are expected to resume later in the summer as the club looks to avoid a repeat of last season’s contract uncertainties.

Complicating matters, young centre-back Jarell Quansah is close to a move to Bayer Leverkusen, potentially leaving Liverpool light in central defence. Konate’s exit would further weaken the squad depth in a critical position.

The club’s hierarchy are balancing major spending on new players while staying cautious with existing salaries. However, Konate’s consistent form and interest from European heavyweights like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid suggest Liverpool can’t afford to undervalue his role. Treating him as a key pillar of their defensive setup may prove vital if they want to avoid a defensive crisis in the upcoming season.
