Vincent Kompany has praised Michael Olise for his exceptional mentality and commitment to improvement following Bayern Munich’s dominant 6–1 victory over Atalanta BC in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, Softfootball reports.
The French winger delivered a standout performance in Bergamo, scoring two goals and providing an assist as Bayern took firm control of the knockout tie. His performance continued what has been a remarkable season for the attacker, who has now contributed 36 goals and assists across all competitions.
Speaking after the match, Kompany highlighted Olise’s mentality and attention to detail as the key qualities behind his rapid rise.
“Michael Olise came here with a mentality that gives him the chance to be one of the best players in the world,” Kompany said in comments shared by journalist Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle.

Fabrizio posted:
Vincent Kompany: “Michael Olise came here with a mentality that gives him the chance to be one of the best players in the world”. “I don’t really want to compare players but I played with Kevin De Bruyne and was lucky to watch him come through as a young player then become a superstar. He had that obsession for detail… …Michael Olise has that as well”.
The Bayern coach also compared Olise’s dedication to improvement with that of former teammate Kevin De Bruyne, whom Kompany played alongside during their time at Manchester City.
De Bruyne himself spent time developing in the Bundesliga earlier in his career with Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg before establishing himself as one of the world’s best midfielders at Manchester City, where he later won the Champions League during the 2022–23 season.

Olise’s recent performances have even placed him in early discussions surrounding the Ballon d’Or race, as his creativity, goal-scoring ability and influence continue to grow within Bayern’s attacking setup.
The praise comes shortly after Olise himself spoke highly of Kompany’s leadership earlier in March, noting that the manager’s tactical clarity and communication have helped build a strong collective mentality within the squad.
Bayern Munich are currently enjoying an outstanding campaign reminiscent of their historic 2020 treble-winning season. The Bavarian giants sit comfortably at the top of the Bundesliga standings, have reached the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal and remain strong contenders for the Champions League title.

However, the emphatic win over Atalanta was not without concern for Bayern, as Alphonso Davies suffered another muscular injury during the match. The left-back had only recently returned from a hamstring problem sustained during Bayern’s 3–2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in February.
Davies’ latest setback raises fresh injury concerns for Bayern’s medical staff as the club enters the decisive phase of the season across domestic and European competitions.
