Juventus make Club World Cup statement with dominant win over Wydad

Lecce vs. Juventus

Juventus are rapidly emerging as the surprise package of the 2025 Club World Cup after dispatching Wydad Casablanca 4-1 in Philadelphia. With another standout performance from Kenan Yildiz, the Italian giants now look well on course for a place in the last 16.

Initially written off as dark horses, Juventus have exploded into life under Igor Tudor. Following a resounding 5-0 win over Al-Ain in their tournament opener, they maintained their momentum against Wydad, putting in a relentless, high-energy display.

Fans at Lincoln Financial Field were treated to a commanding performance, as Juve seized control from the first whistle. Yildiz was once again at the heart of it all, opening the scoring in the sixth minute via a deflection off Boutouil, and following it up with a stunning long-range strike ten minutes later. Wydad responded through Lorch just before halftime, but the Italians remained unfazed.

The second half brought more of the same. Juventus pressed with intensity, carved open chances through Cambiaso and Kolo Muani, and found the net again through Yildiz and Vlahovic. The defence also held firm, shutting down Wydad’s limited counter-attacks and winning the majority of duels.

Statistically, Juventus were dominant: they held 64% possession, created five clear chances, had 25 touches in the opposition box, and won 77% of their tackles. Their superior physicality and composure left little doubt over the result.

Now, all eyes turn to their heavyweight clash with Manchester City on 26 June in Orlando, which could determine who tops the group. Meanwhile, Wydad must regroup for a crunch meeting with Al-Ain in Washington. Juventus may have arrived quietly, but their football is making all the noise.
