Barcelona have secured the long-term future of one of their key defensive figures, Jules Koundé, with the French international agreeing to a contract extension that will keep him at Camp Nou until June 2030, Softfootball has learnt.
Koundé, who joined Barça from Sevilla in 2022, has proven to be a versatile and reliable presence in the backline. Though originally signed as a central defender, the 25-year-old has adapted seamlessly to the right-back role, excelling under both former manager Xavi Hernández and current head coach Hansi Flick.

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on his official X handle, stating:
“Jules Koundé has agreed to sign a new deal at Barcelona until June 2030, as expected. Agreement in place with the club and green light from Koundé’s camp with Barça director Deco on it.”
He also revealed in another post, that the Defender will put pen to paper next week he said;
“More on Jules Koundé. He’s now expected to put pen to paper next week, with formal steps of new deal until June 2030 expected in the coming days.”

Koundé’s current deal was due to expire in 2027, but the club has moved proactively to extend it by three more years. The decision reflects Barcelona’s desire to lock down their core players for the long term, especially amid growing interest from top European clubs.
Manchester City were among the clubs reportedly monitoring Koundé’s situation, but the Frenchman has chosen to remain in Catalonia, where he is said to feel settled and valued.
The official announcement could be made within hours, once the final formalities are completed.
Koundé has made over 80 appearances for Barcelona since his arrival, playing a pivotal role in their La Liga title win and continuing to shine with his consistency and tactical intelligence. His decision to extend his stay is a significant boost for Flick as the club looks to build a stable squad capable of challenging for top honours in the coming years.
