When João Pedro joined Chelsea in the summer, many questioned whether he was the type of player the club really needed. Some fans and pundits felt he was not the right profile to lead the line for a team trying to return to the top of the Premier League.

But only months into the 2025/26 season, João Pedro is rapidly changing that narrative. Softfootball gathered, the Brazilian forward has become one of the most influential players in Chelsea’s squad, already scoring 14 league goals.

His performances have not only delivered crucial points for the Blues but have also showcased a player with remarkable technical quality and intelligence in the final third.

His recent hat-trick in Chelsea’s emphatic 4–1 victory over Aston Villa perfectly highlighted his growing importance to the team. The goals demonstrated his calm finishing, sharp movement inside the box, and ability to exploit defensive spaces.

What makes João Pedro’s rise even more impressive is the transformation in his role. Earlier in the season, head coach Enzo Maresca often preferred to use him deeper in midfield, sometimes as a number eight rather than a traditional striker.

However, under the influence of coach Liam Rosenior, João Pedro has been deployed more consistently as a central striker, a position where his qualities are now flourishing.

His all-round ability has been key to Chelsea’s attacking play. João Pedro is comfortable dropping deep to receive the ball, linking play with teammates, and then driving forward toward goal. He can hold up possession with his back to goal, turn defenders with quick control, and create space for others.

Inside the penalty area, he has shown a natural striker’s instinct. His finishing with both feet is impressive, and he is equally capable in the air thanks to his height and positioning. Whether it is a powerful strike, a composed chip, or a well-timed header, João Pedro has shown he can score in a variety of ways.

Beyond goals, his work rate also stands out. The Brazilian contributes to Chelsea’s pressing, helps in build-up play, and often drops into deeper areas to connect the attack qualities that make him far more than just a finisher.

Some comparisons have been made with fellow Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, who also reached similar goal numbers in previous seasons. But João Pedro’s case is different: he was not originally signed as a traditional striker, yet he is producing goals while also contributing across every phase of play.

If his development continues at this pace, Chelsea may have discovered not only a versatile attacker but potentially one of the Premier League’s most complete forwards in the making. At just 14 goals already and with the season still ongoing, João Pedro’s impact could become even greater in the months ahead.
