Former Nigerian captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has offered thoughtful guidance to compatriots Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface as speculation surrounds their club futures. The Super Eagles legend believes both players must “own” their decisions amid growing interest from top European and Middle Eastern clubs.
Osimhen recently completed a stellar season in Turkey, where he helped Galatasaray win the league and cup double while also finishing as the league’s top scorer. His form has caught the eye of several clubs, including Liverpool, and he is widely expected to leave Napoli this summer.
However, Okocha made it clear that such decisions should be left entirely up to the player. “The decision should be his. Whether it goes well or not, he must own it. I don’t believe in deciding someone’s future. He should choose what’s best for him and his family,” Okocha said.

Meanwhile, Victor Boniface has had a more difficult year. After shining in his debut Bundesliga campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, injuries hindered his form in his second season. With the German club reportedly open to offers, Boniface could be on the move—though he reportedly has no interest in joining a Premier League side, despite links to Newcastle.
Okocha sympathised with Boniface’s struggles, citing injury setbacks and the pressure of maintaining form. He advised the 24-year-old to work hard for his place or move to a more fitting environment. “We all know it takes time to come back from a serious injury. If he stays, he must fight for his place. If he leaves, we hope it’s to a club that fits his career path,” he said.
While Osimhen seems destined for a big move, Boniface’s future remains uncertain. What’s clear from Okocha’s comments is that both players must be deliberate, confident, and unafraid to take responsibility for whichever path they choose next.
