It’s the best way to start the competition – Luis Enrique after PSG’s win over Atalanta

Paris Saint-Germain started their Champions League title defense in grand style, brushing aside Atalanta in a 4-0 win at the Parc des Princes. Goals from captain Marquinhos, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos ensured the French champions went home with all three points, Softfootball reports.

PSG produced such an outstanding performance without two of their biggest stars. Ballon d’Or contender Ousmane Dembélé and rising talent Désiré Doué were both sidelined after sustaining injuries during the international break, yet Luis Enrique’s men showed no signs of missing them.

After the game last night, speaking to the PSG TV via the team’s official website, the PSG manager was excited with the way his team performed on the night, in his statements, he said;

It’s the best way to start the competition. Receiving the joy of our fans, while playing what I think was a very good game. We’re happy, we clearly deserved the win. I think we created a lot of chances, and it wasn’t easy because Atalanta defended with three centre-backs for one striker, and it’s always difficult to overcome that.

Softfootball understands that the Spaniard was particularly pleased with how his team managed the tempo of the game, turning their dominance and possesion into goals while keeping a clean sheet. For Enrique, the win was as much about setting the tone for their title defense as it was about the three points, he said.

It’s the best way to prepare for the next match. We know what it means for our supporters and for the club. We’re happy to be going to Marseille and we’ll try to win the game.

PSG now shift their attention to a fierce Le Classique showdown against Marseille this weekend, but after such a statement performance in Europe, Enrique and his players will travel south brimming with confidence.
