According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, Marotta is a huge admirer of Perisic but admits the deal could not be done by all parties involved. Marotta revealed:

Ivan Perisić has special bond with our club, he wanted to come but the conditions of the deal were not right. We like Perisić and his skills but we only made a phone call.

Dutch side, PSV stood firm in their position not to allow Ivan Perisić leave the club this window as the timing will be too short for them to find a replacement and they want to focus on their title defence in the league with the Croats heavily involved in their squad.
