Inter Milan Host Struggling Liverpool in Champions League Clash

3 Min Read

Liverpool are off to the San Siro on Tuesday night for a big Champions League league-phase clash with Inter Milan. Things at Liverpool haven’t exactly been smooth.

Softfootball understands that they sit 13th in the 36-team table with only nine points from five games, and the highs have been followed by some pretty rough lows. The 1-0 win against Real Madrid feels like ages ago.

Then came the 4-1 collapse at home to PSV Eindhoven, and the home woes keep piling up. Draws against Sunderland and Leeds just make things look shakier.

The club shared a post of their players arriving in Milan ahead of the game via their official X account.

Inter Milan’s only Champions League tiny setback so far was a last-minute 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid. Before that, they were flawless, beating Kairat, Union SG, Slavia Prague, and Ajax. And domestically, they’ve been ruthless.

Three straight wins, 11 goals scored, and a 4-0 demolition of Como; basically, they look unstoppable. Their San Siro record in Europe is excellent too: 10 wins in the last 11 group-stage games.

Team News

Inter, most of their stars are available, but a few doubts remain. Denzel Dumfries is pushing to be back from an ankle injury, but he may only be on the bench. Matteo Darmian’s calf isn’t fully right, and Tomas Palacios and Raffaele Di Gennaro are still out.

Lautaro Martinez will lead the line alongside Marcus Thuram. He’s scored in his last five Champions League home games, so the Reds will need to watch him closely.

Liverpool have some headaches of their own. Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni are out. Conor Bradley is back after a suspension and could start at right-back, while Joe Gomez may replace an out-of-form Ibrahima Konaté at centre-back.

Possible Lineups

Inter Milan:
Sommer; Akanji, Bisseck, Bastoni; Augusto, Zielinski, Barella, Calhanoglu, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez

Liverpool:

Alisson; Bradley, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Chiesa; Ekitike

Softfootball’s Prediction

Inter look sharper, more confident, and more stable than Liverpool, who are still dealing with tensions and shaky form. Martinez in red-hot form and Chivu’s free-scoring side should be enough to punish a fragile Reds team at San Siro.

Prediction: Inter Milan 2–1 Liverpool
