I love being the example for people choosing to play for West Ham, Bowen declares

West Ham United Captain, Jarrod Bowen has declared that he loves being the reference point for people to love the club, Softfootball reports.

The England international scored for the first time after a two-month drought as West Ham played out a 1-1 against Brighton in the premier league match-day 15 encounter at the American Express Stadium on Sunday evening.

Bowen in an interview that was shared via the club’s official X handle, expressed delight with his goal but most importantly he is happy with what he represents for the club. He said:

I think I’ve been pretty unfortunate in a few weeks. If you go back to the Leeds United game with the overhead kick and Newcastle United game where I hit the bar after four or five minutes. I think you can either go one or two ways with those things. You can either let it eat you up inside, but the most important thing is the team, and the position that I’m in of being captain and having that responsibility, having that leadership to be the focal point of the team without scoring and assisting. I think I’ve always said I always want to show what it means to play for this Club, and I try and do that every single time that I step foot on the pitch. I want to make people proud. I want to make people look at me and go ‘that’s someone I want to play for the Club.

Unlike Brighton’s manager Fabian Hürzeler that was happy with the result. Bowen was gutted but he doesn’t allow not scoring affect his focus for games as he puts in the same effort all the time. He said:

Goals and assists are always nice and sometimes goals and assists don’t happen, but one thing with me is, if goals and assists don’t happen, I don’t let that affect my performances on the pitch. I’ll always turn up and do my best and I always believe that if you do the right things, you’ll get rewarded, and as it happens, probably the hardest chance that I had goes in the back of the net, but it was a really nice feeling.
