Ghana head coach Otto Addo has revealed that Thomas Partey’s omission from the Black Stars squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger followed a private discussion between both men.
Softfootball understands that the Arsenal midfielder was one of the biggest absentees from Ghana’s squad for the crucial qualifying fixtures despite being fit and available for selection.
Speaking while announcing his squad, Addo explained that the decision was reached after holding confidential talks with Partey, stressing that he preferred to keep the details private out of respect for the player.
The Black Stars coach said he always considers the national team as a family and believes internal matters should remain within the group rather than being discussed publicly.
Addo disclosed that Partey was willing and eager to represent Ghana, but he personally decided it was best for the midfielder to sit out the upcoming matches based on the issues discussed between them.
Despite the omission, the coach insisted the decision is not permanent and confirmed the door remains open for the Arsenal star to return to the national team.
He expressed hope that Partey would address the matters raised during their conversation and suggested the midfielder could be recalled for Ghana’s next international window in March.
Addo also revealed that their meeting ended on a positive note, adding that both parties remain on good terms as they look ahead to the future.
