Softfootball can confirm Hartlepool United have completed the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Max Merrick on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign.

The England Under-20 international will continue his development with the National League side after committing his long-term future to Chelsea earlier this year.

In March, Merrick signed a new contract with the Blues that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2028, underlining the club’s confidence in his potential.

The announcement comes shortly after Chelsea strengthened Xabi Alonso’s backroom staff by appointing renowned set-piece coach Austin MacPhee from Aston Villa, as the Blues continue reshaping both their playing squad and coaching team ahead of the new season.

The loan move is expected to provide the highly rated goalkeeper with valuable first-team experience as Chelsea continue to map out his progression.

Everyone at Chelsea will be closely monitoring Merrick’s progress throughout his spell with Hartlepool United.
