According to Softfootball sources, Hansi Flick has begun reshaping Barcelona’s coaching staff ahead of the 2026/27 season, making targeted changes while keeping his core leadership group in place.
The most significant appointment is the arrival of German fitness coach Benjamin Kugel, a trusted member of Flick’s backroom team, who replaces former fitness coach Julio Tous.
The changes are primarily aimed at improving player fitness, injury prevention and recovery following a campaign in which Barcelona were hampered by a series of muscular injuries. Kugel is expected to implement a more data-driven physical preparation programme as the club looks to reduce injury setbacks and improve overall performance.

The coaching restructure comes as Barcelona continue strengthening both on and off the pitch. The Catalan giants have also completed the signing of Karim Adeyemi after reaching a full agreement with Borussia Dortmund, bringing an end to one of the summer’s most closely followed transfer sagas.
With a refreshed coaching setup and key additions to the squad, Barcelona are laying the foundations for a strong 2026/27 campaign under Flick.
