Haaland: “I’ve Never Felt Better” — Striker Credits Fatherhood After Brentford Winner

5 Min Read

Erling Haaland says he’s in the best shape of his life after firing Manchester City to a 1–0 victory over Brentford, scoring his ninth Premier League goal of the season. Softfootball reports that the Norwegian powerhouse struck after just nine minutes, muscling past Sepp van den Berg before rifling home a thunderous finish that decided the contest early on.

With that strike, Haaland has now scored at 22 of the 23 Premier League stadiums he’s played in, an incredible stat, as he gave manager Pep Guardiola his 250th win as coach of Manchester City and extended his scoring streak to nine straight games for club and country. That includes six goals in two for Norway and ten in seven for City, marking the longest run of his senior career so far, as he earlier scored a brace in the 2-2 draw against Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.

Speaking after the game, the 24-year-old couldn’t hide his delight in an interview uploaded on Manchester City’s official website. The striker also reflected on Brentford’s physical style, comparing the game to old-school Premier League battles.

He Revealed:

You can say so, I’ve never felt better than I do now. So yeah you can say so. I think it’s about preparation first of all, getting ready for the games. You can be physically ready but you need to be mentally ready as well. And to be honest I think with a kid, it makes me even better because I actually disconnect more than ever. I don’t think of football at all which sometimes when you’re younger you think of this and that and maybe worry a little bit about things. But when I go home I relax even more so I think I need to give a shoutout to my son!

It was a tough game and it reminded me a bit about Stoke City with Rory Delap 15 years ago. It was lovely to win and important. They’re huge and do throw-ins from the middle so of course it’s not easy but it’s about preparing and being ready for what is going to come and analyse good, and we did. We have a great backroom staff that did their job really well so all praise to them.

I think there is always space even when people are low. You just need right timing. I like when people come like this against us as well. Low block is not easy with three big centre backs and two people in front of them, five people around us at all times. That’s why it’s not easy and that’s why it feels even better.

At the Gtech Community Stadium, Haaland and Van den Berg engaged in an exciting struggle for the full ninety minutes. The league’s top scorer said he enjoys a physical test because it pushes him to perform even better.

He said:

First five minutes he just kept on pushing me, so I said alright, let’s have it. So then I started pushing him back. For me this is a proper goal. This goal for me is top. This is for me one of my better goals.

I think it helps me because I was a bit tired before the game, going into the game I was thinking it’s going to be tough. Then after 10 seconds, he started pushing me, and it motivates me. All praise to him honestly, he made me want to do that.

It was vintage Haaland, a mix of power, emotion, and precision, and a clear message that the Premier League’s top scorer is feeling sharper than ever and can push the team to win titles.
