Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler is determined to reach the very top of world football, with his grandfather revealing the Turkish star dreams of surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The 19-year-old has found regular playing time difficult to come by since arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu, but his family remain convinced he has the talent to become one of the club’s greatest players.
Softfootball understands Guler’s grandfather, Mehmet Ali Guler, believes the midfielder’s ambition is what sets him apart.
Speaking to AS, he said:
Real Madrid is not leaving this boy alone, and it won’t. Arda will be there.
He added:
I told him, ‘Son, you are already number one. Turkey knows you, the world knows you, everyone knows you,’ but he wants more than that.
According to his grandfather, Guler has set his sights on football’s biggest icons.
He says, ‘I am going to be number one.’ He probably wants to surpass Ronaldo, Messi, etc. I think he will succeed.
Despite limited opportunities this season, Real Madrid continue to view Guler as one of the club’s brightest long-term prospects.
