Gibbs-White Snubs Tottenham Joins Forest Camp in Portugal After Signing Contract Extension

Morgan Gibbs-White has put transfer rumours to rest by flying out to Portugal to join Nottingham Forest’s pre-season tour and penning a new deal with the club.

Softfootball reported that Tottenham were confident of signing the English player, and it seemed to be going to plan, as the 25-year-old midfielder had initially missed Forest’s departure to Faro on Monday due to what was described as a private and personal matter.

However, he landed in Portugal on Wednesday night and has linked up with his teammates ahead of Saturday’s friendly clash against Fulham. Gibbs-White’s presence comes amid heavy speculation over a possible switch to Tottenham.

The North London club had reportedly activated his £60 million release clause earlier this month and scheduled a medical. But Forest pushed back hard, accusing Spurs of breaching protocol with what they believe was an illegal approach.

According to football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, Gibbs-White has now committed his future to Forest until June 2028.

Romano tweeted:

“Morgan Gibbs-White has signed new deal at Nottingham Forest until June 2028.

“Deal off with Tottenham after all agreed, medical booked… and #NFFC furious with legal action prepared right after Spurs approach. MGW accepts to stay at Forest this summer.”

The creative midfielder is expected to feature in Forest’s upcoming friendlies against Fulham and Estoril Praia. He played 45 minutes in last weekend’s goalless draw against Monaco.

Gibbs-White remains a key player under Nuno Espírito Santo. Last season, he contributed seven goals and 10 assists, including a standout display against Tottenham in April when Forest secured a 2-1 win.

Meanwhile, Spurs, now managed by Thomas Frank, continue to rebuild. They’ve made five signings this summer, including Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and youngsters Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai.

Forest fans will be relieved to see Gibbs-White back in camp and firmly committed at least for now.
