Gareth Bale recently appeared on the podcast The Overlap, where the retired star took part in a “blind ranking” challenge involving five of the most iconic goals from his career as reported by the overlap podcast via their x handle.

The segment required Bale to rank each goal without knowing which one would appear next, making the task tricky for a player who scored so many memorable goals during his time with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.

The overlap reported;

“We’ve got five of your best goals and we’d like to blind rank them. Volley against Stoke in 2010-11. I’m trying to think what other ones I’ve scored so I know where to rank it.

I’ll go four. Your solo run versus Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final in 2014. I’ll go three.

Your worldie against West Ham up to the park in 2013. I’ll go two. Your overhead kick versus Liverpool in the Champions League final. I’ll go one.

And then your solo run versus Inter in the Champions League in 2010. Yeah, I’ll go five.

Yeah, that’s a decent one. Happy with that? Yeah.”

Bale placed his famous overhead kick against Liverpool in the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final at number one. The spectacular strike came moments after he entered the game as a substitute and is widely regarded as one of the greatest goals ever scored in the competition, helping Real Madrid secure another European title.

Second on his list was his long-range strike against West Ham United during the 2013 Premier League season. The powerful effort was one of many standout moments from his final campaign at Tottenham, a season that eventually led to his record-breaking move to Real Madrid.

In third place, Bale ranked his unforgettable solo sprint goal against Barcelona in the 2014 Copa del Rey Final. The Welshman famously raced past defender Marc Bartra down the wing before finishing calmly, producing one of the most iconic goals in the history of the competition.

Fourth place went to his side-foot volley against Stoke City during the 2010–11 season. The strike showcased Bale’s growing attacking quality at the time, highlighting the technique and confidence that would soon turn him into one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards.

Interestingly, Softfootball highlighted that Bale placed his memorable solo run from halfway against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League at number five. The goal came during his famous hat-trick performance at the San Siro, but Bale admitted it finished last simply because it was the final option revealed during the blind ranking challenge.

Away from the ranking, the former Real Madrid star also shared his thoughts on the pressures of managing at the Bernabéu. The former Real Madrid player tipped Xabi Alonso to make bold calls at the club, explaining that success at Real Madrid requires more than tactical brilliance.

Bale suggested that handling the personalities and expectations inside the dressing room demands strong leadership and decisive management.

Off the pitch, Bale is also exploring a move into football ownership. The Welsh legend confirmed he is leading a consortium that has submitted a fresh £40 million bid to purchase Cardiff City, the club from his hometown. The proposal aims to help return Cardiff to the Premier League, although current owner Vincent Tan has previously dismissed takeover approaches.
