Frank Onyeka Uncertain About Future at Brentford

Frank Onyeka has returned to Brentford following a loan spell at Bundesliga side Augsburg, but the Nigerian midfielder remains uncertain about his long-term future with the Premier League club.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan in Germany, becoming one of Augsburg coach Jess Thorup’s most reliable midfielders with 31 appearances, contributing to the team’s 12th-place finish. Despite his strong performances, Augsburg opted not to make the move permanent and confirmed his departure at the end of the season.

Onyeka, who joined Brentford in 2021 from FC Midtjylland, has had a mixed experience in England. Under former manager Thomas Frank, his playing time fluctuated, at times enjoying a regular spot, while at other points being sidelined.

With Thomas Frank now at Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford are close to naming Keith Andrews as their new manager. Andrews, a former assistant with the Irish national team, has been part of Brentford’s technical staff but has never worked directly with Onyeka.

Speaking about his situation, Onyeka said he’s unsure of where he stands ahead of the new season. He plans to return to Brentford and hold talks with the incoming coach before making any decisions.

The Super Eagles midfielder may have a fresh opportunity under the new regime. If he impresses in pre-season, he could earn a key role in the squad heading into the 2025–26 campaign.
