Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has expressed his heartbreak following the tragic death of Diogo Jota, who passed away alongside his brother André in a fatal car crash in Zamora, Spain.

The German tactician, who signed Jota from Wolves in 2020 and worked with him for four seasons at Anfield, paid an emotional tribute on Instagram, describing the Portuguese forward as more than just a player.

Jota, who recently got married to his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, lost his life in the early hours of Thursday morning when the vehicle he was travelling in veered off the road and caught fire. The 28-year-old was on holiday with his younger brother André when the accident occurred.

Klopp and Jota shared memorable moments at Liverpool, including winning the FA Cup and League Cup in the 2021-22 season, as well as helping the Reds secure the Premier League title in 2024-25. Known for his versatility, intensity, and eye for goal, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club.

Softfootball had earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo, Jota’s captain in the national team, has expressed his shock over the demise of the Jota brothers.

Jota’s passing sent shockwaves through the football world, with tributes pouring in from fans, players, and former teammates. The club have pledged their full support to the family during this difficult time.
